Groundnut is very popular in the international market for its characteristic natural flavour, nutty taste and crunchy texture. India and China together represent over two-thirds of the global output out of which India produces 7.61 million tonnes of groundnut. Apart from its various edible uses the oil extracted from groundnut also has a huge international market, both for its nutritional and health aspects.

 
  India produces two sizes of groundnut kernel::  
     
 
Bombay Bolds. These medium sized kernels generally count 50/55 kernels per ounce.
Java type. These small sized kernels is equivalent to the US Spanish or the South African Red Natal. The generally traded grade of Java is 70/80 kernels per ounce.
 
     
  Uses  
     
  Groundnut kernel popular across the international market as a table snack due to its characteristic natural flavour, nutty taste and crunchy texture. It is consumed as fresh, roasted, dried, boiled and in so many recipes.

In most developing countries kernels are used for oil extraction, food and as an ingredient in confectionery products.

It is also used in manufacture of soap, cosmetics, shaving cream, lubricants etc.
